Contacting Bookstores
Karl Breaux
If you wish to arrange a booksigning or get a bookstore to carry your book, don't be shy. Call or email the bookstore in question and ask to speak to either the store manager or, in the case of Barnes & Noble, the Community Relations Manager. Explain that you are a local author and wish to promote your book in their store. Chances are they will be happy to arrange a signing.

Another idea is to offer to have some kind of event in the store. Some cookbook authors demonstrate recipes and hand out the food — this goes over very well with audiences, as you can imagine. Some authors give out goodies or bookmarks and some hold a raffle at the end of their signing after collecting names. Or offer to speak on a certain topic. In Lafayette, the Writer's Guild of Acadiana meets at the local Barnes & Noble and invites authors to speak. This is a good example of how to promote your work without sitting at a table signing books for two hours, although that works fine too!
